Derek Merdith, Managing Director

Derek's business experience extends to over twenty years in the information and technology industries beginning at IBM to witness the launch of the famed IBM PC AT.

Since that time Derek has had a passion for innovative technology and has developed local technology firms with great success. As founder and CEO of Mercury Group Pty Limited Derek grew the business from a start-up to become a leading player in the IT industry within Australia during the 1990’s with revenues approaching AU$100M.

Today, Derek sees the sustainability issues facing all of us as representing both challenges and opportunities.

“We have seen technology become “supersized” – fat, lazy and selfish.

“I grew up in a 'cradle to grave' mindset – we must now think 'cradle to cradle' – and stop wasting our children’s resources.

“By tackling these challenges we will create innovative solutions for organisations to do more with less - whilst at the same time creating significant cost and competitive advantages.

“We have learned to watch every drop – its now time to watch every watt.”

Derek's qualifications include an MBA from Bond University and a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from University of New South Wales, Australia. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (FAIM), a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and an Alumni of Harvard Business School's Owner President Manager (OPM) program.
